Well i went on my first outing up the columbia saturday, B-pool. I had been a few times to the willy this year but im still warming up a bit. So to get to the point i slept in till 5:30 am and jumped in the truck and left in a hurry. A few blocks from the house and realised i left my camera on the desk:passout:.
Well i thought real hard about turning around for about 2 seconds and drove on and i figured (oh well i probably wont get any pigs on my first trip this year). I think we all know were this is going:D.
The water was 50.5 and a little more stained than what i figure would be normal for this time of year. I fished for 2 1/2 hours without so much as a nibble. And was starting to have visions of an epic skunk for the day when all the sudden, SLAM. My blue chrome lippless crank was being stripped from my possesion. WOW, i dont think i have ever had a strike that intense before. The fish was 3lb 10oz and put up a fight to the death (not really death but you know what i mean). I remember thinking good thing i forgot the camera, and also would this be my only fish of the day. Well at around 9:45 the bite turned on. And for what ever reason i switched to plastics and started working steep rock drop offs, and where the rocks met mud or sand i was catching all sorts of fish in the 1.5 to 3lb range. I stopped getting fish on cranks and was only getting them so take 3 inch senkos with shiny flakes fished slow. And the bite was very soft, not like the first rocket that attacked my lippless crank. Well after i worked a particular point over pretty well i moved on and came back 15 minutes later and on my second cast across that point after i missed a strike on the first cast i set the hook into a hog! 5lb 0oz exactly on my scale and 23 3/4 inches long. Agian good thing i forgot my camera, im sure thats the only reason i got any of thes nice fish. I did take some pictures with my cell phone but they are not very good. I will post them if i can figure out how. The first picture im holding the fish right in front of my 115 optimax, and the second is next to a tackle box with long jerk baits in it. Oh and i should mention the river was like glass until 1:00 pm, great day on the water.
