:meme::applause: Just got back last night from Brownlee. Had a GREAT time. Went out fishing with Crappie Chaser on Friday and caught Crappie until we were worn out. Caught 1 Catfish but released it to go grow up a bit more. We were camped at Hewitt and the water level was down enough the boat docks there were out of water but was rising so probably will be floating by the weekend. The courtesy dock at the boat ramp was usable but got up Sat. morning and part of it was under water. They did get it fixed yesterday. We were camped by the fish cleaning station and it was busy the whole time we were there. Not any slabs but lots of fish. People were catching off the banks as well as out of boats. Restrooms and showers are open at Holcomb park now as well. My sister and I took a drive about to Swedes Landing on Sat. and saw a black bear going up a hill. That was well worth the drive. Crappie Chaser is your man if ya want to catch fish!
Be safe out there. Dodie

Dodie, you guys were great to fish with, thanks. Dodie caught over 100 crappie herself. Cool seeing a bear,I had 2 bear hunters out today who are trying to find one. Water temp hit 60deg yesterday and the crappie are now on the banks spawning.

The dock repair was a bust. The first section is hung up on the end of the concrete and is now 3/4 submerged. As the lake rises the whole section of dock will be under water. It's now a job for a diver. The good news is the Holcomb dock is floating and useable.

Hey Crappie Chaser the family and I are heading over there this weekend, do you think the bite will still be on with them spawning?

Really? Cool! see you there!
I just hope the Powder doesn't make it so muddy it turns off the fish.

Do you think the cats will be biting in the mud flats?

Only one way to find out. But my feeling is that it could be pretty slow.

The spawn will go on thru May. They just moved onto the banks Sunday when the water temp hit 58. With the warm weather predicted for this weekend it should be great fishing. It was wide open today in strong wind. Had to run the outboard all day, to much wind for the electric. Took the canopy down to make it back in to the ramp. I think it's to early for good catfishing. We caught 5 or 6 last week. Your best bet would be at the park. Bass are also SLOW.

Will the crappie fishing still be good the middle part of June?

Thanks

Some years there's a short time in early June when crappie are almost impossible to catch in any numbers. They are recovering from the stress of the spawn and just not feeding. After that stress period wears off they school up in deeper water and start feeding heavily. With the huge population of fish in the resv now and the length of the spawn the early spawners should be feeding by mid-June. Last year there wasn't much of a June swoon.

Just back......lots of crappie......bass REALLY slow.
So slow we pulled up and headed for Oxbow/Hells Pool.
Caught hundreds on small bass & one good female there.
Will post up a pic of it later.

How was the carp activity? I'm heading to Richland for a bowfishing tourney in 12 days. It's a hit or miss with the phenominal spawn.

Just got back from Brownlee/Oxbow/Hells Canyon Pool. Crappie were everywhere but had most luck in Oxbow Res. Caught many large bass on topwater baits such as Zara Spook Puppy. The trout fishing was also really good for big trout from 14 -22 inches. I grew up around there and it seemed like the we had to work hard for the bass. The water temp in Oxbow pool was 54 degrees but with the warm weather they recently got there I would expect the water to warm up quickly. the hillsides were still very green which was very pretty. The crappie werein 2 -10 feet of water. Trout were caught trolling in the areas with lots of water movement. I don't know what the deal was but this is the first time I've seen the campgrounds full on a Thursday night. I guess maybe people are camping instead of traveling on longer vacations. It is nice that Idaho Power now has free internet at some of the campground (of course the fishing was so good that I didn't have time to get on Ifish.net while camping). I'll be back there in the fall when the crappie are a little bigger so save some! Tight lines....

Carp were very active and on top of the water, although they weren't directly on the surface. Good luck at the tourney. I've always thought that would be fun.

You should hit it just right. Saturday 5/16 they were just starting to move into the bushes and the far end of the flats and boy are they loud once they start... uhmm... "making babies".

Good luck.
