Ever have one of them days that you wish you would have never gone out on the water? I had one of them on Friday. Seems like I was always a step behind the changes in the wind, making boat positioning hard. The water also seemed to be a good 4 degrees cooler than it was before the rain. I'm still searching for bass #1 of the year.
There were people catching trout everywhere and they were actively feeding in the shallow areas, but I refused to fish for them just because I want that first bass! My partner caught at least 10 trout, but I refused to switch. He kept making noise and laughing as I got skunked and he brought in several nice fish. I was pretty tempted to dump him overboard, but that wouldn't have been nice.
Just to add insult to injury, I caught a fish. I caught an 11 inch rainbow trout on a 3/8 oz spinnerbait. Who catches a rainbow trout, especially an 11 incher, on a 3/8 oz tandem willow leaf spinnerbait? Oh well.
I ordered those Banjo Minnows. 2 kits in fact.

Keep at it and you'll get that first one.
Banjo Minnows aren't too bad, and if they're too big you can cut it in half and use the rear section -- seemed to work well for me back in the day.

Ahhh you boys are making me feel all better for sucking at bass fishing so far this year! Only been out twice but blanked both times. I feel it coming soon though!
I agree just keep at it. They have to bite at some point....... I think

I went out today with the nephew. He is new to bass fishing. See, I haven't even gotten a bite yet this year. I tied a jig with craw for my nephew and he flips it toward shore. He asks, "what does a bite look like?" Right then, his line straightens out so fast it bends his rod tip, but he doesn't react to it. I said, "Just like that."
I'm still a big 0-fer. Its like being in a slump.

This is a strange year. I have not even tryed for l.m. bass with this cold spring. I'm just having better luck with the smallies. But I'm starting to get the itch to head to hagg soon! for some nice fat bucket mouth. hope the weather warms by July so we can fish ice out:excited:.

RogerLet me turn you on to a secret lake I know of. The LM are really heating up there. Promise not to tell? It's Silver Lake. Just east of Castle Rock.

Ha, I should go there. I did another great thing today. I went to the local tackle store to get a few spinnerbaits. I found some strike king spinnerbaits that didn't come in packs, but had these little tags on them instead. I get out on the water and tie one of these on. Five minutes later, I get a strike! I have the fish on for a couple of seconds and it comes off. I thought about putting a trailer hook on it, which is usually the first thing I do to a new spinnerbait, but decided to be lazy. I then threw again and got another strike with the fish holding on a few seconds and letting go. I'm ****** at this point, so I jerk the bait out of the water and it flies at me with a lot of vigor. I felt everything but the pain of the hook. I grabbed the bait.......
I DIDN'T TAKE THE RUBBER SAFETY SLEEVE OFF OF THE HOOK POINT BEFORE FISHING WITH IT!
I just took my stuff and left.
