I am going to take the boat out and fish Green Peter with my 5 year old. Never fished it before and I am looking for a little advice. We were going to go fish for shad but it is going to be a little too early so I thought that GP Koke fishing might be a good outing. Just really looking for a few pointers to get us started. Thanks in advance. Craig and Trenton.

Downriggers will help along with a fish finder. Look for fish, but if nothing else; fishing 20-30 ft with dodger and wedding rings(green or pink). I would run down center of lake to island and see what's up there..if nothing, take a left and go up a bit into the quartzville arm. This time of year, probably running shallow so might get along without downrigger; a must later. I would be sure running at least 10 ft down which you could do without downrigger. Put some white corn on tip of hooks and away you go. Don't know what size boat you have, but if 14 ft or so, and loaded, watch out for the wind that comes up from the dam about 10 or 11 on most days...chop can get pretty nasty and if at island, long run back to the launch..I would start heading back as soon as white caps start and then fish the open water out in front of arm that goes into Thistle Creek launch.

A little later in year, switch to dodgers and hoochies, all variety of colors. Look at the Rocky Mountain Tackle Co web site for some great koke gear and advice as well.

Good luck
