Hey guys I sure enjoy all the tips on fishing here. Lots of good info. My kids keep asking me to take them Catfishing so I figured I better plan a trip to Brownlee or Oxbow. I'd also like to get into the crappie and from all the posts it sounds like I'll be headed in the right place. Don't mean to leave any posters out but I sure enjoy Crappie Chasers reports and advice as he is right there.
A quick intro about myself as I see that is the tradition around here. I LOVE STEELHEAD fishing but I have three kids that also love fishing but taking them on the floats for steelhead in my drift boat turns into an exercise in frustration with the crowds. I just don't want to burn my kids out when there is other types of fishing that is more rewarding for a kid.
So this year I've got my kids lined out on some Kokanee fishing trips and we even made an earlier trip to Suttle Lake and caught some nice Browns.
They really want to catch some catfish and crappie so the big trip will be around the 4th of July. I'll be taking any and all advice that your willing to share.
We have started fishing locally around here in SW Oregon and managed to get into some nice crappie at the local reservoirs. These crappie were around 10"-11 1/2"s in size and took a crappie jig under a float fishing up against any new grass growth that was just coming up out of water. We fished coves where the wind pushed the food and warmer water and seemed to do the best. Not sure how it will be finding crappie in July at Brownlee or Oxbow. Will they be suspended in deeper water by then??
