Hello all, I'm a new member from Utah...I realize that most of you are from Oregon/Washington area-but I thought that maybe you would enjoy a post occasionally from this neck of the woods. Anywho, took my daughter fishing Friday at Utah Lake hoping to get into some white bass/black crappie. The cool thing about the lake is that just like McElligot's Pool, you never know what you'll catch. My daughter caught her very first-all alone fish (small black crappie)! and I caught a nice LMB. She hooked one more that let her long line release it. The weather here is warm with slight breezes and most of the higher lakes are just hitting ice off-great trout fishing going on now.

That's great to see happy kids fishing. I like hearing of different places, keep the reports coming. What part of the state is Utah Lake?

I fished there a lot while I was going to school. It is just west of Provo. I remember catching 36-40 inch catfish with regularity. It was a lot of fun.

Yep, near Provo-or about 30 minutes south of Salt Lake. Those catfish are a tone of fun...I hope to get out on some overnighters and bring in some big ones, I'll post 'em up when I do. What school did you go to, what did you study if you don't mind me asking? I am starting my masters degree up at UofU-got my BSN in nursing at UVU, and I like BYU sports.

Used to fish there, and the Jordan river in Midvale by the slaughterhouse, all the time growing up. Would ride our bikes to the Jordan to fish carp and suckers, and later in life drive to Utah lake. fishing the the Geneva Steel "Bubble Up" in mid March for large spawner walleye, and catching 50-100 white bass. That's how I learned to fillet fish so well.

Post some full sized pics if you get to the upper Provo, High Uintas...Washington, Trail lakes,... Deer Creek...Strawberry Res., I wouldn't recognize that I guess, nor Jordanell, they were done well after I came to Oregon in '83. Man those were some good times! Utah's fisheries seemed to have gotten better over the years and Oregon's fisheries are just a constant mess.

Welcome to IFISH repeter!!!

I went to the Y and majored in Management of Information Systems........honestly, I spent more time hunting and fishing in those days than I should have!! Yet I have never regretted it.

Welcome to Ifish. It's been a while since I've had time to fish on family trips over there.

Thanks for the post, repeter. I really want to get down there to fish the gorge and Strawberry. I caught the first fish of my life in Strawberry Res. 45 years ago. It looks like I will need to save a day to fish Utah lake while I am there.

Thanks for the memories. I used to work for Geneva Steel years ago. I spent many a day fishing that lake. I did find myself a bit more partial to Jordon when it was finished, though.
