Couldn't handle it any longer - had to go chase those crappies! :D

Boated about 45 tonight (didn't count the bluegills), waded through them, took 12 for dinner. Was a beautiful evening out - had the lake to ourselves. What a perfect way to spend the first "crappie fix" night! Even broke off two bass! Wife almost outfished me, we were neck and neck to the last bend, but I managed to take her in the final stretch!:meme:

Can't wait for the next time! :excited:

Monday is the best I can do. After work most likely by myself. I've never seen the water so clear.

That's surprising with the rain we have had!! Apparently the water turned over nicely.

I'll be in Denver Monday. I wish I could fish it then. My kids gave me problems so we didn't fish today. It'll be a week before I am back from Denver. ACH!

Total 29 crappie, 34 bluegill and one bass. Not bad for just a couple hours and less than 300 yards from the boat launch!

Is there an area near Portland for a guy to go solo in a small boat and catch those?

You're right. A little bigger than last year. Let's bring them some fish food this year and see what happens :)

Cool Jon. The boys and I went out. I accidentally found a 4 pound largemouth with a crappie jig. The kid netted it for me. That was cool. The boys knocked them dead too. Very fun. Too hot for the next couple days though. I gave our panfish to some bankies and kept a few for eats and bait for Brownlee in a couple weeks. Great night.

Wife and I did it again tonight - bite was on fire, fished for three hours, caught over 100, kept enough for a nice fish fry. Cottonwood is "snowing" like crazy out there - blanketed the water and was a real pain in the...well, you know. Perfect weather for this though! Saw more people on that water than I ever have and I've been fishing that water for 20+ years. Guy out there with the prettiest canoe I've ever seen. New boat fished like a champ. What a great evening!

Man, we are just barely, if at all, putting a dent in those populations. When I was out last night, I was alone on the water. I saw only a couple of folks on the bank. The trash is starting to show up though. I wonder why it's so hard for people to pick their crap up and haul it away?

Hey, is the camera getting closer to the fish each photo? :) We need to see each other out there soon! Right now it's a great place for kids, because the action's so fast. The largemouth have a great food supply as well, sheesh.

Hey Fishonjon, I have been dreaming about fishing that water ever since you posted about it last year. Finally made it up there tonight for a couple hours. I caught ten in the 2 hours I was there. I have a lot to learn about catching crappie. I hope to do better next time. Most of the crappie I caught are going for a little drive to brownlee next weekend. Hopefully I can turn them into catfish fillets.

I don't know if that is my canoe you commented about, but if so, thanks.

Also, thanks for the generous reports. Its reports like yours that keep me addicted to Ifish.

There's a link in ifish for crappie fix last year that tells all about where, etc. I believe the technical name of the water is Mission Creek reservoir. You have to either fish from the bank or drag in a small boat - there's no boat ramp (although I heard last night that some yahoo moved the log at the access and tried to launch their 16' boat in there yesterday).

Good luck man! It's a fun place to fish! Don't think we'll be there tonight - arms sore for setting the hook so much last night! :D Might go on Monday.

To all: post your pics so we can see how everyone else is doing out there (not just at St. Paul, but everywhere)! This is the place for it!

A couple tips for anyone that goes to St. Paul - please don't block the access to the water so that people have room to drag their boats through, and make sure you take your garbage with you, or help out and clean up after those who's mothers didn't go with them. :D

This is private land access, and they have been threatening for years now that they might close it off if we don't respect it.

About the person that moved the log yesterday, I'd hate to think it was an ifisher that did that. I would feel really bad, :( after 20+ years fishing there, that I may have been the one to guide a new person there, and then they disrespect it and get us shut out. :noway:

So please, people, keep this area open for us. I would hate to lose this wonderful fishery. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. I will check it out. And, bring some trash bags.

Mark

p.s. Any tips on wich way to go for bank access or is it obvious?

FelonFinder

There is only so much accessible by bank. Just walk down and follow the paths and that's it. But if you can, get a little boat and an oar or two and you will do much better. Depending on your location, you may borrow mine, if you promise not to sink it. :)

Hmm this post really makes me want to catch a few Crappie!

I'm only a 40 minute drive away from the reservoir, and would really like to try out this fishery sometime. If anybody has plans to head down there and wants a partner just let me know! Too bad it's no-good from the bank.

Good intel brother. That is a slab, but then again, a bucket full of fish at 40 minutes away is better than one or two slabs at 3 hours away...
