ST,
No reason it (Lake Siskiyou) shouldn't produce good fish. It's actually the drowned canyon of the headwaters of the Upper Sacramento River. Back in the day....before Box Canyon Dam was put in....this stretch of water between the head of Box Canyon and the Mt Shasta City Park, where the headwaters spring is actually located, produced some dandyfine trout.
"Twasn't long after the dam went in that some backyard biologist decided it would be a good thing to transplant some smallmouth bass there. Now the baby trout that survive THAT gauntlet, have to be pretty smart so it's no wonder they can get big, but they're also pretty smart about not getting caught.
Been there, lived it, it'll never be the same.
