Have any of you guys tried using a Banjo Minnow? I was sitting here watching the ad and I'm thinking of buying the kit. I used one last year with a friend, just playing around and I caught a load of fish with it. What do you guys think?
Jig heads and grubs instead! Bass don't play instuments, but some of the "Bass Fisherman" play the BANJO I'd bet!!

Look on the Search feature. Lots of talk about this lure in the past. Bottom line is that it might be the most successful INFORMERCIAL of all time. The bait works, but not really much better than any other. Some people have said there were times when that bait was unbelievably productive, but I feel that was just another example where someone figured out a pattern where fish wanted a jerk bait.....just like figuring a pattern with any other bait.
They do work...I've used them, just not any better than anything else....and they are kind of a pain to rig.

The one I used had a corkscrew type thing in the nose with an eye for the hook to pass through. It wasn't too durable. I think I'll resist.

If they come out with a kazoo minnow, I'll be all over it.

Just got my new banjo minnows tonight. Will be fishing them tomarrow. Hey I've spent more on stupider sporting goods. I can't hardly turn past the infomercial when I see it, probably watched a dozen times or more. So the wife got them for me before our trip to Selmac. She really is the best. All jokes aside, there really is some great footage on the commercial plus I've wanted a banjo since I was a kid on the first go around of the informercial.

I used the 3 1/2 inch white banjo with no weight, just the screwlock and hook. I would cast it with a spinning rod up next to cover and let it die. I'd then twitch it now and then. It was tougher not to over-work it. I had some really vicious strikes on it.

They sure look good on tv.

I JUST CAN'T WILL MYSELF TO! Even though I've had success with it, Its almost comical in a way. I can't explain it. I think I look cooler slow-rolling a spinnerbait or flipping a jig rather than tossing some gimick around. I have to admit that they are much more realistic than the flying lure or the helicopter lure. Remember that one?

I fished my way through an entire kit of banjo minnows, with great success, i ordered a 2nd and fished it as well, you cant tell me there is many other soft plastic baits that you can swim, twitch, let die, realy realy good bait in weed mats/pockets! The fluke is a good bait, but doesnt realy have the action of the banjo minnow!:twocents:

If you order the kit and the feelings of remorse begin to overcome you, give me a PM. I'll help out and take them off your hands.:D

A buddy bought a kit a few years back and had it in the boat on a slow Springer day on the hook in moderate current and 25 foot depth.
He dropped a blue banjo minnow with the scented eye pellets down mid depth and hooked up with a 15 pound hatchery fish in less than 5 minutes.
I have to admit I was skeptical about the whole setup with the screw on bait holder and the hooks used, but we netted the fish.

Fished the banjo minnow some this weekend with no luck on her. It does look as good in real life as it does on the TV but the fish were not knocking the crap out of it like they do on the commercial. Fishing was very slow where we were fishing. I will continue to throw it this year and hopefully gain some confidence in the lure.
