Hi all,
I’m going to be heading over to Brownlee on or about June 1st. Is that too late? Is it too hot then? Crowded? What do you think will be biting better at that time, crappie or smallmouth?
Heading over from the valley and have stayed at Woodhead before, and roughed it at Swedes, but am wondering about Hewitt. I’ve never seen Hewitt before so how does it compare in size to Woodhead? Also, which park has supplies gas, ice, etc. closer?
Any input would help and thanks in advance.

as far as timing goes...that is when I go every year...caught lots of everything, so no worries there...weather is usually great, not too hot yet...as far as comparing campgrounds, woodhead is bigger and nicer, but I have never fished that end of brownlee, we usually camp at swedes or across the river in idaho.....you'll be fine, just remember, slow, and then slower for them crappie:)

I have reserved two spaces on May 29-30 . Monday is the 1st of june. I made my reservations two weeks ago and they only had 4 spaces left at Hewitt. I'll let you know how we do.

Eagle Valley RV park in Richland is a really nice place to stay if Hewitt is full. It's about 2 miles from Hewitt. Clean and well run by good people.

Not too late at all for any species.
Will it be crowded?....the reservoir is huge...you also have Oxbow, and Hells a short drive away...the crowds shouldnt be a factor due to amount of water to cover.
Weather: Plan for all types of weather. Should be nice, but check the weather for extreme heat, extreme rain, or extreme wind before your trip.
Hewitt has gas and supplies closer. It is much smaller and requires a reservation, but I like the Tent camping their best. If you have hook-ups, then woodhead is nicer for camping. Hewitt is very quiet and good for the family. Plenty of shade as well for Tent camping.
The nice thing about Woodhead is that you have brownlee, Oxbow, Hells pool, and Powder river arm very close. If you camp at Hewitt, you are much more committed to fishing just Brownlee and Powder river arm....which is still plenty of water to fish...but I like options. I'm assuming you are bringing a boat to fish out of.
Hope this helped.

Eagle Valley RV is a really nice place to stay though, and they even have a convenient and nice cleaning station.
