Ok, thinking of hitting the upper willy for warmwater fish this year. What's a good selection of lures to get started with?

from what ive been hearing, sounds like lipless cranks have been picking up a lot of fish, your possibilities are really endless between fishing for smallmouth and large mouth, i would also pick up some kahlins/ yamamoto grubs and some tube ( i prefer outlaw) as far as colors go i would ask the guys who do a lot of fishing on the upper willy, sounds like there have been quite a few people doing good on a lot of different lures, im sure theyll have some input for ya.

chrone/blue lipless crankbaits, drop shot a 3-4 inch senko(pumpkin seed), shakey head a robot worm( oxblood), these are some of my favorites for that area.

if you do a quick google search with the key words that the guys give u in the bait, you will be sent to countless tackle stores selling them

So many lures to chose from. Don't get too overloaded as then you spend too much time trying to decide the right one.
When I grew up fishing the Willamette near Rock Island, we carried Nightcrawlers, a hula popper, a Rapala and a few hair jigs.
We caught all kinds of Bass, crappie and blue gill and simply had fun. Now I have so many different ones, I can't take them all. I would have to hire a person to pack them all.
Oh well you will find the ones that you need by trial and error. I like one crank bait and some spinners and some plastic worms. I still catch fish on the ones I take.

Can someone tell me what are some typical lure name for lipless cranks? Rattle trap? I want to buy a few lures for columbia smallies so any advice on types sizes colors would be great. I normally have just used nightcrawlers and done pretty good that way.

This time of year, saftey pin spinnerbaits are good too and don't get hung up much. Again, 1/4 oz. These can be cast out and let settle to the bottom. Then just put your rod tip down and reel slowly, crawling it just off the bottom, then get ready. BAM!
