I don't post here very much at all, but figured this is the best place to ask my question. I have an 8HP Honda kicker motor that I run on my drifter. It's never had an issue at all, and has ran like a charm ever since I bought it 3-4 years ago. I'm pretty much worthless when it comes to being a boat motor mechanic.

Fastforward to 2 weeks ago. We moved, and I had no place to set my motor. I didn't have a motor mount stand/cart (had intentions of making one once we got moved into the new house), so for the time being, as we moved, I laid it down on it's back (I have dolefins on it, so that's the only way that I could lay it down without taking the dolefins off). I've done this in the past without issues, so I figured it wouldn't hurt it for a week or so. Yes...I know i'm not supposed to, but it had worked in the past, so I figured it was OK.

Long story short, I built a permanent motor mount out of some lumber, and when I picked the motor up to mount and cinch it on the stand, there was oil leaking out of the bottom, near where the skeg is. How much...if I had to guess, it was approx 5-6 tablespoons. As I was cleaning it up, I noticed that it smelled of gas too...

Any thoughts on what it could be, and what I need to do in order to get it running again. I haven't tried starting it, as I was unsure if I had done any damage that needed repaired before I ran it again.

Thoughts???

The oil is coming from the crankcase through the cylinder and out the exahust by the prop , the fuel has leaked out of the float bowl on the carb ...
Put it on the stand and let the oil drain and the gas evaporate for a day or so ...
Then pull the sparkplug and pull it over by hand to see if there is oil in the cylinder ...
Clean the sparkplug and install , check the oil and add if needed (4 stroke)...
If you can run it in a 55 gallon drum or with flushing clams on the stand go ahead and run er ...
There should be no permanent damage to your motor , but expect it to smoke like crazy for a while and possibly be a bear to get going ...
After it cleans up its act reward it with a new sparkplug ...
