I bought I new NR 21ft Seahawk and I am wondering if I need to apply sharkhide. To be honest I could careless about the cosmetic look of the hull. Am I missing something? Should I just go out and buy and apply it because I will care about a nice shiny hull......or do lots of people not care like me and don't use it?

Somebdoy asked this same question just last week. I put it on my 2005 Seahawk, and I'm glad I did. It holds the finish and also keeps the stains off. Aluminum tends to easily pick up stains.

How much area does a quart of the Sharkhide protectant cover? I have a newer 16' driftboat that I'd like to protect the bottom half of the sides with (the top half is painted).

Well I did a 22 ft NR OS with a little left over, for touch up.
that was two coats.

Same result - 22' boat, two coats and a little left over.

Appearance aside, I would still put it on to protect the aluminum. When the boat is new, it will only take a few hours to apply.

I just did the majority of a 22' Alumaweld Intruder with 1/2 qt (1 coat). Like the instructions say, do it when it's cool, no moisture, clean surface, straight strokes. I used blue shop towels to apply and had good results. I'd suggest wearing rubber gloves and applying it outside. It dries to the touch very quickly.

If you have any greasy spots, use acetone to clean them first. Use a degreaser soap without wax to wash the boat before applying.

Don't apply it to your zincs.

Boats are expensive. Sharkhide is cheap (~$63/qt).

Hey there cj6530,
You're not missing any thing. Sharkhide will do nothing for you other than keep your boat looking nice. I think it would definitely be a waste of money for someone such as yourself.

Hey Mark,
One quart will be plenty to do your boat. And I do try to get guys to do two good coats. Not so much for a thicker film, but more to be sure you don't miss anything.

Put it on ,I wish I would have.
Like others have said keeps the aluminum from staining and looks nice for a long time.

Do you use this stuff on just bare aluminum or painted as well?

I used it on the bare alum. Just polish on the paint. Its been on my boat 4 years. I have lots of dings, but no stains.
