I have carpet over plywood on my 21ft '97 Formula Vee. I'd like to re-carpet the boat and put in fresh marine grade plywood as well. I'd do it myself, or help someone do it, but I'm the type that likes to work with or watch it done the first time. Anyone up for the task, or know somebody who is? What should I expect it to cost me?

Thanks Klamanite, I'll give you a call to pick your brain.
Anyone else know someone local who could do the work? Or are any of you willing to do the work? Would like to compare cost of doing it myself versus cost of having it done right. :)

I did mine in vinyl. It took some time, but it came out wayyyy nicer than the factory job that was in it. I imagine carpet would be even easier. All I did was pull the floor and copy all the cuts, shapes and corners the previous floor had. Not rocket science, just time consuming.

I am just starting mine. I just removed my seats. I went to MR plywood and got the plywood that is next grade lower than marine plywood it was a lot cheaper and that is what the boat dealers are using. It was 3/4" exterior I paid $39.00 each for 3 sheets. I am looking for vinyl now but have not found it yet without having to order it.

I used "Nautolex" vinyl and I ordered it from defender dot com. Put nautolex in the search box and it will come up with a product list. Also be aware it is sold by the running yard in 54" and 72" wide rolls and priced accordingly. I looked around quite a bit and they were by far the cheapest I could find. I also used MDO plywood with the finished side up. It helped a bunch because when the vinyl went down it didn't show the rough side typical of regular plywood.

If you want a non-skid finish, there is a guy in Pacific City who does the floorboards for most of the dory fleet. It's chopper-gun fiberglass over plywood. The final finish is brushed-on gelcoat with grit imbedded. You can pick any color. It's a tough, no-nonsense finish. PM me if you want the guy's info.
