I was wandering if anybody knows if you can convert an XL shaft Yamaha T8 to a shorter one. My T8 shaft drags while I am doing 10 mph or less and it seems to be a lot longer than it needs to be for my current boat.

I don't think so. I had the same thing with my boat when it was new.Took it back in for service and that was #1 on my list. Nothing to do but put a new motor on. When from XL to regular long shaft. Can you raise the mounting up? That would help some.

I have a long shaft T-8 and need an extra long shaft. 2001 power trim & tilt

Make sure that a shorter shaft will extend below the bottom of your hull if it won't it really won't work well in reverse I think a lot of our kickers are in the water at slower speeds. :twocents:
