As it was explained to me zolotone itself is not water resistant it is only as good as the clear sealer sprayed over it. When the clear begins to fail sun exposure or whatever the zolotone is useless. Maybe this is the problem not sure but just a guess. If you were to use zolotone by itself it would not last a season.

Zolotone by itself will last quite awhile (much more than a year anyhow) but eventually it seems to come off. I painted my boat about 7 years ago and didn't have time to clearcoat it - in a hurry to go fishing in Canada. Now, the zolotone is getting seriously thin and I am looking at a sanding/repaint job that I really don't want to do. Next time, clearcoat for sure! :(

The zolotone has been coming off my boat for a few years. Especially where I park my boney little butt when I run the kicker. I think it adds character so I don't see what the problem is. :D

I have a few areas in my North River that could use some repainting

Anywhere you can buy zolotone in Portland area? Does it come in a rattle can or do you need a sprayer? Also any suggestions for clear coat (Gloss Enamel for example.

prep,prime,paint,clear...i would suggest using their system start to finish. I have seen mfr's skip steps and things uuuummm happen within a few years:whistle::whistle:...I'm doing a resto on my '81 alumaweld db and the zolatone w/no clear is locked on like the day after they squirted it..there is some wear in the obvious high traffic areas but that is to be expected for a 30 yr old tub
