How do you like yours?

Two years now with the four stroke 175 on my Thunderjet.

My only complaint is I wish they were not so quiet. My wife laughs at me when I try and "re-start" the motor.

I have a 9.9 for a troller, it can be a little cold blooded, but once it's warmed up it runs like a top. If I used it more it wouldn't be so cold blooded. I should have said, when I let it sit for a few months without starting then it's cold blooded.

I'm very happy with mine, they sip fuel even with four people and ever thing except the kitchen sink in the boat.

I just have a little 50hp and love it. I've done the same thing, tried to start it when it was already going....whoops. Mine is a 2000 model but still runs like new.

I could not be happier it is quiet and easy on gas -1 year now 200+ hours-
90 hp on my 17.6 Maxxum Bayhawk ( NR ) tops out at 35 MPH
with 1 or 5 people in the boat - trolls under 1 MPH with trolling plate
--- fish - crab - ski - tube - wake board - with the boat

Love my df 70 ~80 hrs 1.5 years old runs strong. Agree about the 9.9 being a bit cold blooded, not the best trolling motor but for 300 bux i couldn't pass it up.

I have twin 250's and a 50 kicker, every time I start them they start right up and run so quiet I have to check that the cooling line is spraying to make sure they are running. My 34 ft, 15,000 lb boat tops out at 42.5 mph, It runs great with 7 people on board. 15" dia 20" pitch props. max 6100 rpm. Red line is 6300 rpm. All winter I would go out every other month and put on the muffs, all motors start with no problem. They even remind you when it is time to change the oil. Great motors, Gerberman

800 hrs on my 2000 yr DF70.
Never been in the repair shop, and do the annual maintenance myself.
Quiet, most effeicient, most dependable, most reliable.
I'll buy Suzuki again.
Give me 6. :applause:
In 2000, Suzuki was the only outboard maker giving a 6 yr warranty. :meme:

My buddy has 30 or 40 hrs on his 300 'zuki on a 24' Maxxum. It is quieter at idle than his kicker. Tons of power, no issues. The fly-by-wire controls are a pleasure to operate (I do most of the operating for him).

I have 50 hours on my Suzuki 300 hp., which sits on a 24' North River O/S. I am totally impressed with this motor and boat. The motor is quiet, powerful, I love the fly by wire controls, very good fuel economy, 2-3 features that other motors do not have such as front and rear engine block fresh water flushing hookups, bigt 6 year warranty. The boat is awesome, really a big water boat, I was caught out in 8-12 foot rollers 30 miles out and came in with a comfortable and safe ride.

Take Care,
HalibutZach:meme::applause:

I have a 2008 140 and 9.9. The 9,9 had to go back for warranty service right away. It would not run without the choke half way out. I was told some 9.9's has issues with the carb spacer. It would make it run rough and backfire causing some plug to blow out of the carb. After the service it has ran great. Not even cold blooded anymore.

The 140 runs like a top. Mine is a counter rotating model.

Both motors are super quiet at idle.

I have an '05 90 HP on my 20' Thunderjet. It is the quietest, easiest starting, most economical outboard I have ever had. I ony have 82 hrs on it. Having said that, It is important to note that just as important as the dependability, is how does Suzuki treat you when or if something does breakdown. Mechanical things can have mechanical failures. At 80 hrs, mine blew a headgasket and I got water in the oil. When they pulled it apart, there was corrosion and other water damage. I was 3 months out of warranty. It needed a new powerhead. 6000.00. Susuki said that it was not something that ever happens. They paid for everything but the labor. I was happy. all I have to do now is use it more... I am very happy with Suzuki. Great engine and Great service..:applause:

Shouldnt thread like these go into another forum?? Today, the first 4 threads in Ifish Community (All fishing all the time) have nothing to do with fishing.

130 hours on my Suzuki 2003 115hp. Runs great. :meme: Only problem I've had is fouled plug. I think it was because of old gas. I didn't run the boat enough last year.

The problem with going to another forum is you dont get the exposure that the I-fish community gets, so you dont always get the answers that your looking for, when it comes to spending thousands of dollars on a new motor I myself want all the help I can get and besides how does talking about boats and motors not have to do with fishing?. And on a nother note lets let the mods take care of these things.

Have to pull the trig this coming week. Still wondering if a 140 is necessary. I know it would be really nice, but take a look at this boat guys, it's a river skiff hull, 12 degree. Does everybody still say 140? It's not as big as a T-jet or big duck. Just having last minute wonders. Thanks to all that have helped, and there have been a lot. Either way it will be a Suzuki Prop.

What's the length? 17' or 18' looks to me. a 140 would probably be awesome, but I'd guess a 115 would be more than adequate, even a 90 would make it scoot.

From the one picture it looks well thought out as a fishing boat, and from the rave reviews you have a great motor in mind.:applause: Hope you get many good yrs. of use.

Thanks guys, I am just trying to save some cost to lower monthly payments and a 115 would help do that. It is a 20' boat. I know it looks shorter in the pics. Maybe I'd better call them and make sure:cool:

How much is the difference to upgrade from 115-140?

Twoshottom
04-26-2009, 08:34 PM
There are lots of 20' boats with the 115 hp motor on the back of them and they work fine. I think your resale value would be higher in the long run with the 140. Two years ago I went out in the ocean in a TJet with a 115 yamaha and four guys. With that said, I have a 140 on my 20' Tjet. Don't get too stressed and enjoy the journey to buying your boat.:meme:

about 1200 bucks.

Probably not a real big diff in your payment. I did some research on line a while back and most people estimated that the 140 actually puts out just over 130 hp. If I remember right the block size of the 115 / 140 is quite close in size. Apparently the manufacturer has a little leeway with horsepower ratings on outboards. Example the yammi 150 was thought to put out 163. Get a stainless prop if your really worried. Unless you plan on pulling skiers, the 115 should be fine. Oh yeah, shop online for that stainless suzuki prop. You might save a couple hundred bucks.
