I recently saw a personalized reel seat from a custom rod builder. It had the name and SS# of the owners on the part of the reel seat that is covered when a reel is attached. It looked to be a wood seat...

Is there anywhere to order such a seat?

I think you'll have to do it yourself. At least I've never seen anywhere that offers them premade like that.

Hmmm?

This looked professionally printed. I wonder what type of tool they used?

I take my reelseat into a trophy/placard making store and have it lazer etched.
Suppliers like REC for reelseats may also be able to help you as they do rod tubes, etc. there.

I took a wooden reel seat to an engraver once, and they engraved a name into it. I wouldn't put a SS# on there for privacy reasons.

I agree, if your rod were lost, whoever found it probably would not be able to find you... a phone number might be better.

I think it would be a bigger deterance to thieves. In the LE world that is called an Owner Applied Number (OAN) so if it gets stolen you can file a police report and have that number entered into LEDS. If it ever got recoverd the office could run it thru LEDS and bingo bango, got your rod back.

If it were me, the odds would be overwhelming that I would lose the rod more often than it would be stolen. :D

Could have been engraved with a tool, or a decal could have been printed and a thin layer of finish over that. Lots of ways - if you are good - hand written, than finish.
