While running my engine at low speed their is a continues high-low rpm change. It also surges the speed of the boat similar to a fuel feed probleum but runs perfectly when throttled up or in troll and idle modes. This was first brought to my attention by the machanics after the test runs. They stated that they had only installed 2 other of these NEW 90s and all did the same thing. They are in contact with Honda,so far no clear explanation other than it is the cylinders kicking in and out. This engine has a feature called BLAST that is designed for rapid acceleration to plane quickly and I can't help wondering if this is causing the computer to signal mixed messages to the engine? I'm certainly going to continue to pursue this as I don't think it is good for the engine and I know I don't like it, especially when boating into wind waves and rollers just to have a power surge push xtra water over the bow.
Anyone else have one of these New engines that are experiencing the same thing? Any imput into your thoughts?

is it a VTEC EFI or carburated?

I had a similar problem with the new 90. The engine would not hold at a given rpm. I would be in the ocean or bay and put to 4000 rpms. The engine would increase to 4500 rpms on its own and then drop to 3800 after a while. Dealer replaced computer twice. They said it was the blast technology kicking in. I no longer have the boat.

I bought my 90 last year..with zero issues..and just last friday I had this same thing happen at around 3000 RPMs....It only happened once and I didn't think much about it after that. I figured I had bumped the throttle with my elbow or something. I hope you keep pursuing the issue and keep us updated!

Good luck

It is a VTECH EFI with less than 10hrs on it. Like Dixiefisher, it only happens while crusing just on plane at 3000 rpm:cool:.
