Hey Little hunter - drop me a line at the beginning of trout season. We'll hit a small stream not too far from here with lots of 8-10" and the occasional 13" coastal cutts. lnf

fishing with lilnorthfork sounds good.
If you find him strange, then the crooked gets my vote. It's a great, forgiving river with good number of fish eager to take a fly. Drop me a note and I'd be happy to offer tips on flies and such.

hey lil hunter
a great place once trout season opens is the siletz around buck creek for trout from the 8 to 14 inch range. All you need is a #12 stimulator or elk hair caddis and you'll catch trout all day

The March Brown Hatch on the Big D arounf Maupin is a guarantee. The hatch runs March to April.
Easy access, good camping, good local fly shop.

Trout? - hmmm. Yeah I've heard of those things. They're those itty-bitty fish with the spots!

Just kidding! Actually I love to catch trout but I suffer from terminal steelhead and salmon addiction so I'm still pretty much a beginner myself when it comes to trout.

One place that is a nice compromise between "kiddy pond planter trout" and fish that require a PhD in aquatic entomology is Clear Lake south of Mt Hood. It's a beautiful spot with a great view of the mountain and it's not too far. I've caught some nice 'bows up to 18" on woolly buggers in black, brown, and olive. There are some brookies in there too.

You really need a boat (check the regs I dont think motors are allowed) or pontoon to fish it. A float tube might be OK but keep in mind it can get very windy in the afternoon and you might have to kick or hike a long ways to get to the fish. It's a reservoir and I like to fish it when it's on the low side but don't wait too long into the summer because it can almost go dry by August.

If I can catch trout flyfishing there I'm sure you will do fine.
