Has any one out there used a spey rod for dead drifting for steelhead? Just curios because I hat taking 2 rods with me if I want to swing and dead drift. Thanks for any input.

Sure. Lot's of fly anglers do this with good success.

one of my favorite techniques for summer fish is to use a heavy hooked wet fly, cast a bit upstream and across, let is sink/drift through a lot, and swing it around back to the surface. I usually feel the weight of fish right as the drift turns into the swing, though they might have taken the fly when it was dead drifting. I don't prefer to fish this way with a spey because its harder to manage line (strip and feed) as teh fly drifts past, but its a great way to take fish.
