(placed on this board since it has to do with fly fishing, mod feel free to move)I won an auction for a custom 2wt fly rod it was listed as Orvis GLX 228 8' 2wt I dont' think orvis has ever made anything in a GLX line neither does Orvis after I called them, I won the bid at $80.99 and the ad seemed on the up in up, however someone else had retracted their bid before mine due to the fact that they were unable to contact the seller. I too have not been able to get in contact with the guy, he has a bogus email listed as CSC@TDN.COM and a disconnected telephone Hmmmm?? his name is listed in the auction as NICHOLAS BOAGLIO OF LONGVIEW, WA. anyone know this guy)I wanted to go and pick it up and tried to confirm this with him before I sent the money, Ebay has told me not to send any money due to the fact there is no way to reach the bogus seller. (MY NAME IS ROLAND HOWARD)

I've no idea on that name, but Google lets me know of a family name that had a women on the dean's list from the University of Washington that listed the hometown as Longview. It always amazes me what Google can find.
I'm assuming the seller has zero feedback, with no items sold, and no other customers to contact. Good call on staying clear of that situation without prior contact.

he actually had 3 positive feedbacks on rods he built and sent out, it's just odd that he would have that much bogus info listed on ebay, I have never been burnt on ebay yet and it's been 5yrs that I have been buying and selling. and I really wanted that rod

Positive feedback doesn't make him any more credible. I could sign up for ebay with three fake names and write glowing positive feedbacks about myself. I'd take ebays advice and get out of this purchase.

Airborne - this is a great thread as a lot of good flyfishing gear is available on Ebay. Glad you didn't get burned. I always start a dialogue with the seller before bidding; asking for extra pictures, history of the product, etc. The people I have bought stuff from have all responded; no response or poor response... no bid.
My brother is an antique lure collector/dealer and got burned pretty good once. Bought a lure for a few grand; sent half as a money order, other half due on receipt. The looney tune seller UPS'd him an empty box, then had the youknowwhats to call him and request the balance. Because it was across state lines, the FBI and the Ohio State D.A.'s office jumped at the case and resolved it pretty quick... I think the guy did some time.
Remind me sometime and I'll tell you about the reel deals I got on ebay. People weren't bidding, probably because the seller was new and the auction seemed suspect. I did some research and found out it was a distributer in California selling overstock. New to ebay and didn't have a clue!

Airborn,
What are you doing buying more gear when you should be saving for college for that huge litter of yours. Sorry to hear the deal headed south, but at least you did'nt loose cabbage.
I've had poor results with rods off ebay. They were in poorer shape that I was told. did'nt pay much though, so no biggie.

Buy Orivis! No I don't work for them; however, I have owned for for five years now. Broke my 5 weight twice and sent it in a third time for fixing and got a new "current" model free. Yeah, really. Brand new Trident with another 25-year, no questions asked warranty. That's worth about $1000 if I had it.
