I got a ScatPacker from the guy who makes them in Portland. I got the little model and it was about $75.00 / my wife and I have two other couples that we do 4 day Deschutes floats with & after a $165 ticket for not having the portable toilet decided to purchase one. When I get home from work I will send you the phone number. They also have them at Andy & Bax for a little more. The reason for the little one is that we don't use it for the intended purpose. Our group has a rule if you use it you have to carry it on your raft for the rest of the trip and clean it when you get home. We stop at out houses on the way down the river. It makes a great water tight storage container. I keep extra TP in it and extra gear that we probably won't need.

PS: My friends wife also got a $165 ticket for washing her hair in the river on the 4th day of the trip, now we have the sun showers too.

Hey Tangled,
Check with the Boat Doctor. They have got some options you may not have seen. These folks only deal with rafts and cats.
Since you don't specify where you're from, I can't tell if it is convenient for you or not. They are in SE Portland.

Tangled,

I got home last night and got my BLM approved river potty out. It is made by Cashell Industries in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Not sure if it is BLM approved but, on the Colorado we used a plastic bag-lined ammo box with a toilet seat on top. Seals up tight when not in use and you could use the box to store other things.

What about an alternative to the moblie throne? I bet you can buy a little device kind of like a wine cork. Probably made by Holdzit?

There is a less expensive option that also meets the standards and works well on the lower Deschutes. Andy and Bax sells a lid system for a standard 5 gallon plastic bucket. The rim snaps permanently onto the bucket and the lid spins onto the rim with a sealing gasket, so it is watertight, spillproof, etc. It is a lot less money (I recall maybe $20 ?) because it is less complicated. We bought a new bucket across the street at Miller Paint. It doesn't have any hoses or connections. There is a great portable toilet washer at the takeout at the mouth of the Deschutes which works with this simple toilet as well as the scat packer. This simple system would not work well at a regular RV dump station.

I am looking for a legal toilet also for the upcoming season. I saw one at the Sportsmens show that was around $180., which is alot more than I want to spend. I am still wondering how well this new system will work. I'm afraid that they will lock the doors on the outhouses and people will start going all over the place! What do you do with the waste if you are not taking out at the mouth?

There is a ton of information on this topic on the whitewater boards, such as Oregon Whitewater, Utah Whitewater, Idaho whitewater...) A google search should bear fruit.
