I heard a rumor that cold weather might cause my graphite fly rod to break while casting. Is there any truth too that?

I have fished numerous times in freezing temperatures with no breakage of the rod. Keeping the ice out of the eyes can be difficult however, as well as keeping the reel from freezing up.
