Ok, I am using Gudebrod thread since its the only thing I can get local. I am having problems with the metalics. It seems the foil covering is comming apart. Do I have to much tension on it or am I snagging it somehow. Is there a better metallic thread out there?

Sounds like your tension device squeezes the thread between two washers. That style is notorious for doing what you describe, try lighter tension or change tension devices to one that puts the tension on the spool ends.

I find that with trim bands, I am better off just using my fingers to create tension. If you aren't doing a large nuymber of wraps, I think that is the best idea.

I usually hold the metalic thread firm and move my fingers towards the blank as I wrap. I think this helps to reduce the fraying as well.
