Anyone else read the kokanee article in STS by Bill Herzog? Gets the blood flowing for this years season...does anyone know who is selling the Gulp Maggots? Can't wait to try em!!!
Pretty interesting. Not to hijack your thread, but it got me curious about where to buy those color of mini-squids. I also was interested in the test involving heavier line between dodger and squid. I've been using fairly heavy line between ocean dodgers and squids for years for the same reason - better action - but for some reason suspected that kokanee were more line shy. I think I'm going to power up a little for this year.

I have not read the article in STS but half way through last year I stopped using scented corn and started using Gulp Maggots. I emailed Berkley and asked if the scent on different colors and glow maggots were the same. They said yes, so the only benefit in multiple jars is the color.
I tried florescent pink, green, and glow. All worked good but pink and green out preformed glow.

I too have not read the article, but I haven't noticed an improvement with the maggots over corn, tried several times last year on different lakes. Will have to read the article, it is probably the only STS I buy all year, the spring Kokanee issue. I assume they are talking about trolling with spinners, tubes, and apex's and such!

They sure do stay on the hook better than corn.

Buck...as Herzog wrote, go with the flourecarbon...I use Seaguar for the leader on my lures....very strong and invisible in the water...I've gone up to 10lb Seaguar and still knock the kokes dead.

I agee fish-on-bend; the gulp maggots stay on the hook really well. When I'm having a problem with fish knocking the bait off with out being hooked I always go to the "maggots" reducing the need to check the bait as frequently.
I have been fish with the gulp maggots since 2006 and have found them to be a really good bait though as with most things involving kokanee they have their day and other times scented corn with outfish the maggots. It seemed to me that the scented corn takes different scents better. All the colors of gulp that I have used have taken fish though I have to admit that I reach for the pink first.
regarding the mini squid - look for the Yamashit's made by Gold Star. The UVs at times have been money for deeper fish. I have good luck with the 10# p line for leaders.

Joe's has the maggots.
I fished them a bit last year, ended up going with one maggot and one kernel of corn. Seemed to work good. I never put the hurt on them like elktalker did though. One thing you'll see in the underwater videos is that kokes will absolutely henpeck the corn right off the lure. The maggots stay on really well and do keep you fishing.

When making up batches of scented corn, add a sprinkle of Wizard Kokanee Killer Korn Magic to the mix. It toughens the corn to keep it on the hook longer and helps keep it from spoiling.

There are bank maggots.
Now, is there kokanee maggots?
Hmm, thought provoking.
Still too early,

About 2 inches of SNOW on Sat.!! I had the boat out on Fri. the Lake was nice but still very GREEN. I put some brite pink wedding rings out beside the boat & couldn't see them 2ft down.
I did talk to a couple of guys who said they got 1 in about 5 hours.
