I'll be taking a trip tomorrow to the Madras area, and I'm curious if there are any ponds or lakes that may produce some decent large/smallies. I'm bringing my 6 year old brother, so it should make for a fun day!

(I'm going to Richardsons Rock Ranch, hoping for some fun along the way to/from)

Thanks guys. ; )

Haystack Reservoir has some bass. Probably too cold now though.

Haystack......Yes, very cold. But some poor fishing is better than NO fishing.
Try the north side of the dam...around toward the bluffs.
I fished and fished the canal inlet and although I was marking a ton of fish...they were all NB's (non-biters).
Maybe they weren't even bass.

Anyway, good luck!

Hey,

Funny you mentioned Haystack Reservoir. I was actually pulled over for speeding on my way through Madras, and luckily got out of a ticket. The sheriff saw my fishing pole and asked if it was for bass, and we had a nice little conversation regarding where a decent bass pond/lake would be around there. He suggested Haystack, so I went and checked it out.

I only fished for about an hour, and I was fishing off the wooden platform (the canal inlet) accessible from the second turn-off on the main road. I was unable to catch any Bass, but a local who was fishing nearby caught a few Whitefish. Maybe they're what you saw. :P

Could be....they didn't seem to pay my Norman much mind.

When it warms up, see if you can borrow a small jon boat and give that rock pile, marked by the DANGER bouys, out front of the dam. Did pretty well fishing the edge of that.
