graemlins/1zhelp.gif I've Flyfished only once for steelhead and that was on the Deschutes. I was hoping some of you experienced members could point some local (I live in Clackamas, OR) spots where a novice can give it a try. Would the same flies that work on the Deschutes work there?
Thanks.

The Clack is still slow for steelhead. I would go the extra drive and get to the Deschutes - probably the lower section. It should be really turning on any day now. I was over fishing about 10 miles below Maupin 3 days ago. One hook-up in about 3 hours of fishing.
You can call the guide shop in Maupin to find out if the White River has blown out things in the lower Deschutes.
The Deschutes truly is your best bet.

Thanks my lifelong buddy John Smeraglio would be disappointed in me not getting over to the Deschutes and that would be my first choice I was just hoping for something closer to home where I might be able to try before or after work. I appreciate the response.

Neither the Sandy or the Clack have much steely action going on right now, but we're on the verge of things kicking in.
You might try throwing some flies at some of the coho just starting in the Clack, and all over the Sandy.
