It's a beautiful river. It certainly looks fishy. But not yet fishy for me. I tried yesterday (Wed.) afternoon from about 4 'til dark. No fish for me. The water is gin clear. I saw one chinook swim past with lots of fungus.
Joe Howell (fly shop just below the fly water) says you need to be on the water at dawn to catch the fish.
There were lots of rigs parked at the pullouts along the river, though not so many I couldn't find some available water. Did not see anyone else with a fish on.
Next time for sure . . .

Things are looking pretty good for our October date on the Rogue. We have started to pick up Steelhead between fishing for salmon. Last night we boated a nice hatchery fish.
I flyfished for three hours this morning (6-9). The fog hung around and allowed nearly an extra hour of swinging. I got one or two possible light grabs, not sure. Then I flipped spoons for a couple hours and hooked two, and moved a third. A ~27" darkish buck that gave me a couple flips and then sawed the line off on a rock, the other probably a foul-hooked chinook. I didn't see it but it was a powerful, slow run with constant speed upstream with no head shaking, he wasn't on long. I'm not sure if speaking about hardware is acceptable or not on here.
Eating lunch at the Steamboat I met a gentleman from Japan. He traveled here to fish the N Umpqua, and has done so every year for the last 4 years. It was a tough choice this year for him to decide between here and BC. I shared way more info with him than I should've regarding honey spots, but my concern is the folks that overheard it.

Was at the fish ladder yesterday, starting to get some more steelhead up there. Saw 5 when I was there. Mix of hatchery and wild fish. More on the way too.
