Please bring your young fishers to the Canby Pond to enjoy the new Youth fishery here. Fishing is now restricted to anglers 17yrs and younger, and holders of Oregon disabled angling permits.
ODFW will have bait and gear available on Sat April 4th for a Youth Angling Enhancement Project event. From 9AM until 2 PM staff and volunteers will be available with bait, rods, and expertise.
The pond will be stocked for this event, so chances of a young fisher getting some trout action are good to great.
Kids as young as 2 years enjoy this family atmosphere fishing and learn by watching all the action.

Some very recent action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xbzthQlx8Q

PM me or post a response for tips, I know how to target these fish.

I will try to be there with my kids. My son caught a 10 incher last night on powerbait with his new fishing pole.

He has reeled in some baby sturgeon, caught some bluegill and 1 other trout at a "pay to fish" pond...but this fish he was super excited about. :)

Thank You! ODFW has been responsive in gear and bait requests for this event. This spells non-stop fish action for the event! :meme:

Bill Monroe mentioned it on Oregonlive.com also.

I saw the fish being loaded into the pond this evening...there was 1000 8-9 inches loaded plus the 200 bigger ones loaded this morning. My kids caught several fat 13" inchers tonight, so tomorrow should be red hot fishing!

SWEET!! What's the best rig setup for these stockers? The kids and I hunted some nightcrawlers tonight in the yard and they are pumped up and ready to go tomorrow! I got powerbait, pautzkes and bobbers too. Any advice on the right setup would sure be appreciated. It will probably be busy there tomorrow and I'd rather have the poles rigged up the right way before we hit the pond.
Thanks to all for putting on such a great event for the kids!!! :meme:
I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they get into their first fishes.......:D

If you are after the big ones, they were hitting spinners in pin,k and powerbait on the bottom. You must use long light leader 4-6lb. Its going to be a busy and great day!
Lots of large fish were lost at the shoreline today, wear boots, bring a long handled net, or plan on getting wet.

Those two boys were the nicest boys...................

They came up to me and shook my hand and told me thank you for the help I gave them before they left with their dad.

Thanks to Mitch and others for working so hard to make the Canby Pond a fun, kid friendly fishery. Just today my boy caught a small trout "by himself" on his new flyrod and could not have been happier. A small Russian boy caught a huge brooder, really big and was so excited you could see his (and his dad's) smile from across the pond. Very kind of you all to put that work into a place for the kids to enjoy.

Thank you to both you and Mitch for a fun morning. The picture is of my two boys (2 & 4) and I. Thanks you for all the work you guys have put into the pond. Great times!
