I wait and wait...and finally it gets here! Fall! Steelhead! Flyfishing! Picked up three last night prospecting some of my favorite water between salmon holes.

Don't just tease us - tell us the rest of the story. We don't want all your secrets, just the weight of rod and line, sink tip or no, flies used, presentation, put-in and take out points, and GPS coordinates. That's all.

What are friends for?

Congrats on getting fall off to a fine start! graemlins/applause.gif

Skein...when you gonna come down and fish with me? I'll show you my "second favorite" fishing hole.

I use a five weight rod...floating line...6lb leader and almost always fish a size 10 double hook Red Ant...cause it always works. I use my drift boat....lay about 35 feet of fly line out in front of the boat and fish the flies just like plugs. I hooked all of those fish just in front of or behind that submerged rock in the river.

You haven't lived until you've hooked a steelhead fishing like this. The take is so dramatic that I'm still not used to it after 35 years and hundreds of fish.

Let's see:

5wt Sage - check
Floating line - check
6lb leader - check
#10 Red Ant - hmmmm, better go to Joe's

Gotta go help Popeye with a sword fight, but after that I might just give you a whistle. I almost hyperventilated thinking about that steelie smashing that poor little ant. Oh, my....

From the end of September 'til the end of October ought to last 20 weeks. That way I could get all the fishing and hunting in I'd like. Just seems it happens all at once.
