I don't post much here, but just had to share last weekend with you all.
We hiked into Rock Creek Lake up in the Elkhorn Mts over by Baker City over Labor Day and, wow, it was beautiful! It was also one of the toughest hikes I've ever taken. Steep, steep, steep with no letup. We even had nine mountain goats playing around on the rocks above camp and while we were fishing. Awesome country.
We caught some nice brookies and some small mackinaws until we lost all the flies they were interested in. The lake was crystal clear so the presentation had to be really gentle. The only thing that saved us floggers was the fact that they don't get fished too hard so weren't educated. Thank goodness!
I'm still sore - in about eleven places. Even the dog is stove up. But what a trip!
My wife, my pup, and mountains - three of the things most precious in my life.

Trust me, it's not a day hike.
