Thought I would start a new thread for reports.

I can't give the Deschutes the thumbs down even though I put on the skunk today. Perhaps it was the two bannana's I had for breakfast graemlins/dork.gif .

Anyway, fished hard. Beautiful day. Wind behaved. Saw one fish on the west bank, heard of 2 others on the east bank. I fished the east bank. Lost a nice redside and missed what I believe was a steelhead. Was on the bank from 6:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.

My tip came off while setting on a rock about an hour in the trip :hoboy: - yup, lost it as I had to break my fly off. Never did feel altogether the rest of the day with part of my rod missing  .

River was up a bump (4360 cfs) and a degree or 2 cooler - high 60's would be my guess. The number of fisherfolk has bumped up a notch too.

Good parade of jet boats on the river today.

Back at it today. On the East bank from 6:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. Beautiful day. Wind stayed down.

Went 0-2 :hoboy: . I am not sure I can land these steelhead. Both were taken dead drifting nymphs. Hooked the first at 1:45 p.m on the dropper fly (Copper John) - everything was going okay until the fish ripped toward the middle of the river. I had too much tension on the fly-line with my finger - broke off (at least I could tell what fly it took). The second came a half hour later. After turning its side at me, the fish decided to sulk. Found bottom, headshakes and unbuttoned.

I did land a fish - a spunky 12-13" white fish. Lost another redside or white fish - couldn't tell. All hits between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. (after I changed my lead fly and went back through the drift).

Pressure was up this morning - had to walk aways to find first open drift. Heard some hooting and holloring early on and saw another taken on a spinner just after the sun hit the water on the West bank.

Go get em.

Floated Pine Tree to Heritage last weekend. Caught a nice native. Very slow. Everyone I talked to said they did the same. Someone lost a boat in Rattlesnake. I'm floating it again this weekend and will report.

Back at it yesterday. I fished the afternoon and evening - tried the west bank for the first time. No steelhead hook-ups. I did land  a nice 15" redside on a copper John and lost 2 others - including one that felt bigger than the 15". Didn't hear of or see any that were caught. Evening pressure seemed light.
