hey folks,

new to the portland area and been fishing a few of your summer run rivers and i have a couple of questions. basically, getting my arse kicked. wondering if anyone can give me some help.

seeing plenty fish in both shallow tailouts and deeper pools but nothing's taking my fly. had one boil a skater the other day, but so far, swinging flies both wet and dry has been completely unproductive, and i can't seem to get a grab even when i roll an egg on 5 lb tippet at these fish.

i know they're mostly hatchery fish holding in the runs below dams, but they seem to be moving. are they just sorta stale and not hot like some of the fish in the rivers east of the metro area?

not expecting to hammer them, just wondering why i'm not even getting an occasional grab. are any of you experiencing this?

hmmm. any help or confirmation that i'm not the only one having this problem would be very cool. thanks.

Keep doing the same thing but if you aren't, fish very early and very late. The first hour of day break and and lhe last hour before sunset. It's also worth trying a small nymph.

Water temps the proble I would dead drift a nymp through the run. they don't chase anything right now. good luck
