I'll be staying near Netarts for the next week. Anyone fish the ocean there? I'm looking for ideas. Surf Perch? Flounder on the fly? graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Are you strictly on foot or do you have something/anything that floats?

I'm leaving my boat at home. It would open up some opportunities, but it's a long way to drag my sled.

Just an idea: I saw some nice perch caught to the left of the old coast guard dock in Garabaldi. Or...barring that..check out the jetty on high slack! Lots of fly action there!

I was going to suggest floating around in the tidewater of the Tillamook river, Wilson and associated sloughs for cutts - but you do need a canoe or pram.

I've tried off the rocks and beach a couple times at Netarts (we're there a lot) but have never caught anything.

A short walk and fun place to try might be to go to Oceanside, then walk through the tunnel in the bluff to the rocky outer beaches and make some casts - probably better for gear fishing though.

As suggested above, I've heard of some fun flyfishing of the Tillamook North jetty in summer evenings. Guy's bring out a lantern to attract the bait fish. Then cast to the sea bass when they start slashing the bait. Tides with minimum height differential are best for this.

The Terrimor always seems to be popular. They allow pets and are located on the bluff above the bay so the view is outstanding. About half the rooms face the bay - I'm sure those fill up quick. A hundred foot walk down the bluff path and you're on the beach - pretty sweet. Reasonably priced too I believe.

Is it legal to fish more than a half hour after sunset, as described in the post above using a light to attract baitfish? I thought Oregon did not allow any fishing at night.

You can't fish for Salmon, Trout, Steelhead and Sturgeon after dark. For bass, knock yourself out.
