I don't do this very often, but I gotta brag. Last Saturday I caught 8 fish mostly on dries (the callibaetis were hatching quite nicely all day with the overcast). Check out the picture at the top of the page. Apparently my brother-in-law developed a sense of humor while writing the caption. Might be a case of trout envy...

Check out our website while you are there. My brother-in-law built it, and we share responsibility for content.

Nice fish....I don't fly fish but isn't that quite an accomplishment? Also I really like the carp photo. I am thinking it would be fun to play with these big guys. We have lots down here too and no one really fishes them. Do you have a special way to do it and will you share with me??? No shame in asking and I do think they would be a hoot to play with.

Nice fish! Especially on a dry.

LCFisherlady,
Carp are a blast. On a flyrod I use nymph patterns and small crawdad patterns as well as wooly buggers. For bait, use corn soaked in molasses. Carp are suckers for sweet stuff. I've seen them caught on doughnuts. They do run hard when hooked. Most of the fish I've caught have fought better than a lot of steelhead. I've had carp take out 200 yards of backing before.

Glad you like the site.

By the way the guy with the carp is my trout envious brother-in-law...

Thank you for the tips. I have accidently caught Carp a few times, and it was big time fun. Light tackle and a torpedo that has no quit. I just have never targeted them, always thought it would be really fun. Is there any time or water temp that is the best? Spring, summer or does it matter?

Actually for flyfishing it is more a factor of water clarity. When bait fishing, probably any time the water is warm enough for them to be active.

That is a beautiful brown. I've caught some nice one's myself, but never a fish like that on a dry. Congratulations! graemlins/applause.gif

Thanks Elwix. I can't wait for September. The spot I'm standing in, in that picture, is where I caught the biggest brown (or any trout) of my life. Last September, I was swinging a skated cranefly imitation, and got a 25 inch brown that weighed about 6 pounds. He's still in that hole, along with a 32 inch certified pig! A friend caught the 32 this spring. Anyway I love craneflies. The strike is phenomenal! It's alot like taking a steelie on a skater. I'll post again if I can re-create the events of last September.
