Tell everybody your favorite spot, what time of year, exactly how you fish it, what water temp is the best, what lure type, brand, and color you use, what depth, and speed of retrieve you use.

I'll start.

My favorite is St. Louis Ponds! I like to burn 3/4 oz. Lime Green and purple Bett's Beetle-spins on 65lb. braid (of course), in 15-20 feet of water. Favorite time of year has to be January 26th, water is usually 33 at least!

Caught a lot of big fish this way!!!

Tenmile lakes, right over there off that point, you know, right where that little creek comes in. Senko that I pour myself from all the used ones from last year. I can't give the color a name! Sometime durring the day the bites on. A little ice on the water is best, you just chop it up with your paddle, back off for a few minutes and cast onto a chunk of the ice. Then you just work the worm off into the water a wham!!!:thisbig:

Mouth of the yakima river....right off the tip of bateman's Island. Fish it from april 1 - may 1. 5lb smallies all day long, and you will probably never see another fisherman anywhere near that stretch!

Bait: Nightcrawlers.....and only nightcrawlers.....the only ones they like. :throb::excited::throb:

Yup, that is a great bite.

But it cannot compare to fishing 26" swimbaits on 14' bamboo rods. I like to throw them at least 125 yards; it lands in Pond A, then I drag them through the grass, and eventually hit pond B.

Works like a charm, the bass never see 'em coming.

I only use swimbaits that look like baby hammerhead sharks, that is key.

See you out there bud!!!!!!!!!

One more thing.... if you want bites you better be using 3lbs test.

There's a little crick that flows out of a 3 - 4' diameter pipe just below the Ross Island bridge. Following a rain it flows a PERFECT chocolate brown, creating a perfect seam. Just throw a greenish brown tube up there and BAM!!!!! Willy River SQUID!!!!

EEEEeeewwwwwww!!!:eek::smirk::wave::whistle::laugh :

Calapooia river, opening day, walking up river from the bridge in the town of Brownsville to the old dam. Using a #1 silver mepps. Used to do well with cutts there, agates and petrified wood.

Best spot on the John Day River. Leave Antelope going toward Fossil, turn right on Cold Camp Road, go about a mile and turn left on Big Muddy Road. Go 8.3 miles and park. Get out and walk away from the passenger door about 12 miles but leave early as it's get's to be a crowded rock!

Willamette River right off the McCormick & Baxter superfund site. Use 3 eyed glow worms cured in 30 weight Penzoil to match the hatch. Oh, and then you have Doane Lake where the old battery recycling plant went out of operation. There, you are best off to use the 9" swim bait in the whirling disease trout pattern. Be sure to doctor your bail up with some nail polish paint splotches to mimick the lesions so common on the indigenous baitfish in D Lake.

Oh come on Dave. I have no secrets left!.... I wouldn't lie.

Alright, alright. I can’t believe I am going to give up this info but I guess you just can’t keep secrets forever.

The place is no secret. I fish the Willy. Mostly the Willy in Salem but trust me when I say that my bait will work well on the lower Willy as well.

Since I was a kid my grandfather always told me that the key for catching fish is to figure out their natural forage. Of course just about every fishing show will tell you the same thing. Well when I first started fishing the Willy I assumed that the natural forage was crawfish and I always did fine using crawfish but there are parts of the year, like spring, when there are very few crawfish around. So I thought well maybe the bass are feeding on other fish such as salmon smolts, bluegill, or some other smaller fish. The problems with that theory is that when I kept bass in the live well they would never spit up any smaller fish. So after a few years of just not doing well early in the year because of the lack of crawdads that are active I decided that I just had to know what the natural forage for those springtime Willy bass. I am not one who normally kills bass but it was the only way I could figure out what they were feeding on. So one day I was able to get a few bass and I cut them open to find out what they eat this time of year. Well after I cut opened the first one I was only more confused. I didn’t know what to make of what I had found so I moved on to the second fish. Oh my, it had the same thing in its belly. Well I continued on to the third fish and once again I found the same thing. Now the picture was so clear. How could I have overlooked an abundant source of natural forage? I had finally figured out the natural forage of the springtime Willy bass. And now every time I fish the Willy during the spring I always take the time feed my dog a can of corn and then go out in the back yard and clean up after her. After all the natural forage of the spring time Willy bass is the corn speckled brown trout.

And now you know, the rest of the story.

The X for me is at the convergence of Secret Slough and Confidential Creek. If things are slow there I move on up to Restricted River where Classified Creek comes in. This time of year I throw a pearl and rose hush-hush bait. The 12" jointed model.

I'm sure glad Built to Fish is such a good sport about this. All in good fun. I'll tell you that there really isnt much secret to my favorte spot and time of year/ method...
I like the columbia during the spawn. If you find the right places on a blustery day in late May or early June, you can drag crank baits all day and have fair shots at 3-5 lb smallies. There aren't too many places that match the Big River for intersting and scenic terain, combined with big fish and endless unpressured water to explore.

2 of my favorites are way up the John Day R. to where the sandy beaches are. You can catch both smallies and channel cats galore in mid to late summer. The 2nd isn't much of a secret: the portion of the Willy from Clackamette Pk. to the Oregon City falls during the shad run. Nightcrawlers on the JD, shad darts on the Willamette. Don't horse 'em!!

This thread was a product of Matt being bored at work, he would never expect anyone's favorite fishing spot, etc. But I will tell you all of his, PM me for a list. Haha

Besides, St Loius Ponds is nobody favorite fishing spot, maybe ten years ago, but not now.

But with as many lurkers are on this site, someone, some where has been frantically looking for 3/4oz lime green and purple bettle-spins :D

Okay but do not tell any one about my hot bait. It's a (shhhhhhh) 3 inch senko rigged wacky style. But I love buzz baits, crank baits and jigs.

As for my top Secret hot spot it's On silver lake. It's on waldon island on the south east end of the island. the spot is called 9 pound dock.
