View Full Version : What's your next thing for the boat?

I got a new kicker last week and went out and put some break-in hours on it Sunday. When I got back she who must be obeyed asked, "So, is that all you need for the boat now"? I instantly became that deer in the road staring directly into the highbeams. Not wanting to admit that there is ALWAYS something else you NEED, I think I muttered something like, I can't imagine what else I would need. ( I know, I'm a coward)

That got me thinking it would be interesting to hear what everyone plans as their next addition to their boat.

Ez-pull pot puller. It's kinda big so might be a tough one to "sneak in".

I just have a small car-topper so any more extra gear would probably sink the darn thing! Pretty well equipped with all the necessities. A basket full of fat Kokanee hanging off the side would be a nice addition though. :excited:

Nothing till the fish finder dies. Maybe by then technology will provide us with actual video footage down to 300 feet. No more silly arches and spots. Then maybe identifying which fish are hungry and maybe even have a form for them to fill out requesting which lure and scent they want me to send down........is that too much to ask?

I want a good top. I have been putting up with the old one which is really low, fogged up, and missing a zipper.

Where is the best place in the Mid-Valley to get one made? (Salem)

A new fire extinguisher and throwable PFD. I figure 15 years and it's time to replace these. A county sheriff once told me you should knock your fire extinguisher every year with a rubber mallet because it gets caked up. Good advise I think, but being so old I should replace. Also need to change my top for more fishing room in the back. If we weren't in this recession I would just start over and buy a new boat. The wife did say the other day she would rather be making a boat payment instead of a travel trailer payment. I better move on that one.

I really need to get some new rivets so my bilge pump can get a rest. :D As for a new toy, I always wanted to get a side planer. Not a in-line but a bow mount and a mast. Might be a summer project.

Water! With a new baby in the house, the only wet stuff my boat has seen has been this winters snow and rain. I've got a few springer trips planned and as soon as Merwin gets going I'll be up there quite a bit too. I hope :)

YEAH- what he said!!!!! My toy box is pretty full right now- I can't think of another gizmo to add to it! I'm just enjoying the heck out of fishing with it.

Some neat little stow-it clips for stowing my extra rods on my pontoon, I got the idea from a fellow ifisher. These are great little clips for storing rods. Only bad thing is you can't buy them locally, you have to order them out of Redding CA.

Thinking about putting in a fuse block near my batteries instead of so many wires to the batts. Primarily for the electric DRs.

Just got one last Thanksgiving and it was one of the best investments I ever got for the boat. Mine fits on the Scotty downregger base, so no extra holes had to be drilled. No more aching back from pot pulling, actually my brother appreciated it as he is the official pot puller.

Bought a used kicker (Evinrude 4hp deluxe) and had it gone through from top to bottom, will get to try it out soon. Also got a new Yamaha 4-stroke 4hp, and plan on breaking it in sometime in the next year or two.

(speaking in a very high voice)

Dual pancake DR weights since I'm currently "ball-less". Joe has um.

But first I'm trolling for a SPRINGER!!!!

So the "next thing for the boat" has to be the best eatin fish in the world.....

You know, many of us spend a bunch of time, sweat and tears convincing the wife that old boats are not safe and generally don't even float, then one of you guys has to come along and brag about how great your old boat works. Let's just pray the ladies don't read this.:passout:

- A bigger more secure garage!!!
- A TR1, but hard to justify the price
- An "extreme net man"
- Some fish blood
- And, of course an updated "heater" would always make the fishing more fun
