My good buddy and fishing partner, BWild, and I headed for Perry South Friday night from our homes on the westside. We knew a storm was headed into town but were committed to our planned weekend to fish LBC. We made it over the pass before the snow hit and were set for Saturday morning. Within an hour and a half of fishing, I tugged in my second biggest bull to date close to the island. He was a dandy male taping 27" and 9-1/2 pounds! I was stoked and the trip was already in the bag. After a few pics, I released him to fight again. BWild and I managed three other bulls on Saturday, a 2lb., 3lb., and 4lber. We missed several others and one even broke Brian's 12lb. test leader!! The weather front pushed through Saturday night and Sunday was tough fishing. We only managed a couple "bumps" and that was it. That big boy sure made the drive around Mt. Hood through The Dalles and down the gorge all worth it. :meme::D

Man Boomguy, you kicked our tails in terms of #'s. Nice job :applause:. That's funny, we tried the herring and got only a couple bumps. Plugs were working their magic for us.
Thanks again RD. As always, a freaking blast. It's the ones that got away that always keep you coming back (and in your case, the one's you caught ).
Great effort! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your report, love the big fish. We hit it on the 11th, I left the next day for vegas for my wifes 40th B-day extravaganza, so didn't have time to post. Fished (once we finally got the kicker motor to wake up from deep hibernation) from about 10 - 4. Got 7 to the boat biggest was 20". Still looking for a big one. All were caught on herring and all were caught in the exact same spot near the island. I forgot to bring the GPS but were able to navigate back over this hump and after a few tries could find the "spot", and would be able to tell within about 10 seconds when we would get a hit. A couple doubles and a couple other times when rookies on the boat were still learning how to fish and set the hook when using downriggers. After an hour and half or so that spot went cold. We tried a few other spots, had a few hits but never touched anything the rest of the day. Beautiful day but cold, guy that was launching next to us had his trailer frozen to the boat. When he backed in the trailer floated with the boat for about 40 seconds and he had to rock the truck back and forth before the trailer "fell" off the bottom of the boat. Pretty funny to watch.

How deep are you guy's fishing for them? The only place I ever fished for them was Flathead lake in Montana. Fished from shore up there and cast either spoons or red/white plugs. It was the same for kokanee up there. We cast red floresant spoons from shore.
The idea for red/white plugs came from a guy named Wayne Doughton in salem, maybe some of you lod guy's remember Wayne. He was a long time friend of the family and when he found out where I was, sent the plugs.
You loder guy's that knew him might enjoy this story. One of my younger brother's took his flyrod into Waynes one time to show it off. Wayne took one look and proclaimed it was not a fly rod, it was a stick!:D I miss that guy!

How deep are you guy's fishing for them?
The fish finder tells all. We caught them in ranges from 10' of water down to 60'. Other trips, I've caught them as deep as 120'. It all depends on what the graph is showing you, then target them. I know, it's a vague answer, but it's the honest truth. Depths of water ranged from 20 feet deep all the way to 270 feet deep. A good fish finder goes a long way!

good job on big one. most of our fish were 10" to 16", pretty small. most fish hooked were on the bottom.

Excellent work, Coyote and BWild!:applause: That is a brute of a bull. :thisbig: Like I always say... It only takes one. It's always sweet to get that ONE early in the trip. The rest are just icing on the cake after that.
It sure is nice to see some good bull trout fishing going on.
