Havn't fished it since high school 10 plus years ago but I used to do really well in the second resevoir, just past the first one. Try the pipe in between the two. some lunkers used to hang out there. I caught bass in all the smaller side lakes. I just used rust and black plastic worms and crappie jigs with spinners. I was not a hard core bass fisherman though.
Good luck

Olalla Lake by Toledo has a pretty good population of LMB as well. Have not fished Newport but Toledo should start getting good soon????

I don't think that is the problem. I just don't thing many people have fished it. Personally I have never heard of it.

Last summer I was by the lower reservoir walking the dog when a guy caught a stocked trout. He said to watch the big bass come up and wait for him to let it go. Sure enough, a 4-5 lb largemouth emerged and waited in a couple feet of water hoping he would release the trout (which he didn't). It seems like since Big Creek and Ollala Res. get stocked with so many trout, a imitation Rainbow could be effective.
