Does the rain make the water colder or warmer?
it depends on the outside surface temps

I think it depends on the water temperature before it starts raining, and how warm the rain is! I was bass fishing one time in early spring, when we got a real warm rain, the fish started busting all over the top two feet of water. On that particular day, there was no doubt that the rain had warmed the water!:twocents:

If the rain water is warmer than lake temp and it rains enough to bring warmer muddy water into the backs of the live creeks the fish will find it. I fished one weekend years ago on Tenkiller Lake in Oklahoma. The first day the lake was 46 degrees just about everywhere and the bite was tough. The air temp warmed to about 55-60 that afternoon and it poured rain through the night. The next day all the live creeks had 51-53 degree water in the back. We caught a lot of fish the next day on 1/2oz spinnerbaits slow rolled along last deep bank in the creek. This was in Febuary and the fish found this water in a matter of hours.

When rain hits snow pack.......it melts the snow pack.......icy cold water then runs into creeks, creeks run into lakes/rivers.
I'd say very rarely does rain equal warmer temps.

I agree the snow pack is the overriding factor. Growing up in Arkansas that was never an issue. I did not even think about that when I made my post above. While this pattern may not work in the PNW, it will work in other parts of the country.

It also depends on the time of the year:D
