How to fish Silver Lake in the spring
Some areas give up fish every spring. Some of the best places to fish are Waldon island. A small bay north of Waldon island (with a white boat house), it warms up fast (north shore). focus on the north shore. Piling rows give the bass a path to take from winter locations to early spring to the spawn, So the pilings are good in the early part of the year. Timber point is good at times in the spring. There are two canals on the north west end of the lake that have the warmest water in the lake most of the time. The red shore line bushes can be very good when the bass move shallow. The north shore of silver lake has lots of small cuts and bays hit all of them! As the bass move shallow start fishing the
Celery edge (shallow weed). Docks can be good in March because lots of bait fish hold on the docks from March 15 thru fall. I fish docks that are lighted at night!!!! Just remember the bass this time of year will some times suspend up under the dock in the warmest level of water.
Fish slow and fish probing baits like jigs and senkos. Good luck!

Roger,
At what depths most commonly do the largemouth spawn on Silver? Are their beds visible? What areas do you focus on? What structure will they be more prone to build there beds by?
Thanks Chad S.
ps....how is the book going?

most bass spawn in 2-5 feet of water in Silver lake. I have seen some beds but with the water being stained you will not see many. I would fish the weed called celery. It grows in a foot or two of water but not in three feet of water as by my knowledge. There is two ways to fish celery.
1. fish a sharp edge. The bass like this edge and it will hold lots of bass.
2. Fish scattered celery. As it grows out into the lake and it gets deeper the celery thins out and the bass will spawn in open pockets in scattered celery.
There is three other place bass have beds on Silver Lake:
1. Sandy or hard bottom the shore line around the far west pilings has sand bottom and is sheltered from the winds and that is a key also.
2. Bass love to bed on wood so a log on the bottom of the lake could have a bed on it. I have seen bass spawn in about 10 feet of water but on top of a piling about a foot or two under the surface of the water. I have also seen bass bed on parts of a dock that and under water.
3. bass also spawn on the roots of lily pads.
The key to the bass spawning is hard bottom.
Thanks for asking!

That is great info. Not many people would take the time to share their hard work with everybody. I've never fished silver lake but info like that will be a big help if I ever get up there. Thank Roger

Hey Roger,
Thanks for all your hard word and info on Silver Lake. I have an access question for you. I fish from a kayak and I just about only need foot access to the water to launch. Are there any points on the lake that are not private besides the public launch?

Thanks again,
Jay

Drive past Kerr road (public launch) and continue east for about another 1/2 mile. You'll see the northeastern section of the lake to your right. The shoulder is wide in couple spots...plus that will put you in some good bass habitat....tight lines

Is that where the lake comes right to the highway?
