Havent been fishing lately, and not sure I ever seen them on the Willy, but out east on the columbia, seen some hawgs in the early summer in the calm shallow coves with weed beds.
On night on the yelowstone in Montana I was fishing for a new state record brown, working my muddler minnow w/ a sink tip like through a deep hole. I fought this "brown trout" for maybe 20 minutes, finally got him to the sand bar from which I fished. Once within view, I had instead caught a new PB carp. It never ceases to amaze me how adaptable they are, living in ralativly cold or warm water, and side by side w/ trout, bass, salmon, and lord knows what.

I caught a 25-lber once at Horseshoe Lake near Newberg. A panfish lake, and I was geared up for bluegill, when, ZIINNNNGG!!! I knew straightaway this was no slabber! 15 minutes of struggle later I had my "prize." Not a "trash fish" fan, so put it back in. This was in mid-to-late summer. I can tell you there are plenty of 'em in the Willamette, at least near Portland, anyway.

I caught one two weeks ago jigging for walleye at Roosevelt Lake in Eastern Washington. Thought it was a high teen walleye by the way it fought. Turned out to be a mid-20's carp. Disappointed it wasn't a big 'eye, but the fight was nice on 6 lb line and a small jigging rod.
