I had some great time fishing for rockfish at few jetties last year, although somedays were a total skunk. There was one guy walking out there with a flyrod and a line basket on one calm day. I didn't have the time to talk to him, but it got me curious since then.
With a fast sinking or sinktip line and a line basket, I think this can be a fast and furious experience. My only concern is tight backcast space. Has anyone try this?

I caught some on poppers early in the morning out at Neah Bay. It was a blast. they were really aggressive but once it got too light they went back to the bottom.

Rockfish on poppers? Wow!
Since virtually all of my catches were either from mid to deep water, I am considering streamers imitating minnow. Probably need to weigh them down a little even with a sinking line.
Did you have any problem hitting the rocks on backcast?

actually i was fishing from a boat and casting into the shore. You can rent a boat for like 50 bucks out at Neah bay.
Most of the fish were right along the rocks which was a little dangerous because of teh current but there were also some right along the kelp beds.
If you were just going to try a sinking line I would go with a big fly for lots of viz. and with the rockfish they will take like a bass so shortstriking isn;t a big issue.

I tried this several years ago with some mixed results. The wind is a big factor, so consider going with shooting heads and quick sinking line. As far as back casting is concerned, make sure you pick out a spot with enough back cast clearance and try casting diagonally.

Sinking lines - heavy flies
CHUCK & DUCK!!!!
I have had rockfish break off using 20 lb leader. It was a good day. Did not even see the fish!
The key to fishing jetties is - Find a low high tide, and a high low tide......
A time where current will be a minimum, so the fishes are free to roam with out getting sucked in or out. If the above happens @ night your in better luck as well!!
