Redington makes a pretty decent rod. I would say those and St.Croix are just about your best bet for mid-range rods.
The Redington reels are superb! no wonder Orvis pulled the rug out from under Redington on these reels. I have three of them

I have that same rod and use the Reddington AL 9/10 with a Rio multi tip. Great outfit!!!!!! Actually hooked 2 fish yesterday on it. My first steelie fish hooked on a fly.

You bet! I switched from a "more commonly known" reel to my new Redington 11/12 LA reel for my Spey rod. Aside from losing the 2 screws for the release switch, it totally rocks!
The drag is what really impresses me the most. Holy Smokes! Whew. It is like butter! See my iFish story about my 20 pound steelhead last month. This reel horsed her in! I give a huge "2 thumbs up" for this reel.

ps...it's Redington (one d) and, the 2 screws that fell off were replaced 3 days later in the mail, postage paid. No questions asked.
   nice.

Ive been pretty impressed with my Redinton set ups. I fish smaller water, and have been using my 5/6 four piece for steelies. I do plan on getting a bigger set up and intend to purchase Redington products, and I have to agree on the drag with their reels, WOW!

I also have an Orvis set up that really doesnt get used as much as my Redington.

Just my two cents......

I got a Redington 9/10 wt. combo for Alaska this summer. The reel works excellent, but 4 days into the trip the rod broke at the ferrule connection. It was a great rod, but I think it had some defect straight from the factory. Afterwards, it was lost in shipping along with my gl3 med-heavy casting rod. This broke my heart because I had landed over 30 kings on the gl3 in less than two weeks.

I have a 9 wt reddington that fishes well but the craftsmanship is not that great, but that is fine as it was not a $4-500 rod. I cant remember what I paid for it but it was under $200.

I also have two RS2 reels that are nice. I have had no problems with them. One I bought at a fly shop over a year ago for $125 which I thought was an ok deal, the second one I bought off of ebay for $50 new in box!

I have had no experience with the redington rods but the reels are not good. I have had a ton of problems with the reels and they have cost me several big fish.
The most important thing when fighting a fish is a good drag and redington doesn't provide that.
Just my experience.

These are the 7/8 weight size reels that I have.

I have a redington red fly rod that's a 7/8 wt. I've never used the reels but I really like their rods. I also have an Okuma reel and it's the coolest fly reel I've ever seen. And I think that $75 would be a really good price for the red fly because I paid $95 for mine. I hope this helps you in the future.

I have 2 9/10 and 2 7/8 ALs , I fish them in Fla. and Costa Rica with loomis 8 and 9 weight gl3s and have had no problems handling in inshore fish with these outfits . Largest 38 lb bull dolphin fish [dorado, mahi-mahi] It sure strained the rods but the reels can put the brakes on these boys. Going to try a 13' 8/9 redington spey rod on the on the Deschutes this year, first redington rod. Very please with Redington reels.

You should try the North by Northwest rods that are sold through GI Joes. They are IM6 blanks, really terrific action for crisp casts, and
priced around 70.00. I'd recommend the 3-4 wt. for creeks and the 5-6 wt for most riversThey get my vote, although Reddington makes a decent rod also.
The other Benefit of NxN is that if you break one, bring it back to GI joes for a replacement, they have a good warranty program.
Good luck!
