Ive been trying to find a direct answer for oregon waters, but have been unable to do so yet, I recently bought a new boat which has a livewell and was looking to try it out to see if i could keep the trout a little more fresh during the long days, is it legal to keep trout alive in a livewell as long as you do not release them back, or upgrade later? or would that even be legal? I couldnt find any info on livewells in the regs... Thanks for any info!

When I am going for the meat, I always put them in the live well. Many are very lively even at the end of the day. I circulate the water often to keep it cool. The only rule I am aware of is, it is not legal to transport live fish. I read that as meaning that you cannot leave them in the live well as you are on your way home.

The rule is that you can keep the trout in your live well while on the water but you can not transport them from the lake alive. Also you are not allowed to upgrade like you mentioned by keeping trout alive in hopes of getting a larger fish later in the day.
We keep our trout in the live well until they die and then ice them down. Many last all day if you give them air and fresh water frequently; say every 30 minutes or so.
