So reading on another post where someone went to the fabric store to look at thread. I thought that was a good idea. So obviously the thread I get from online places and from catalogs is made for rod wrapping. But the stuff at the fabric store got me a little confused. My question is can I use the polyesters and such? or are the polyesters the same as nylon? I think I just answered my own question. I didnt like the look of the cotton ones, but there were some pretty ******** cool metalics and other types. Does it matter if its upohlstery (sp) or bobbin or ????

I'd stay away from Rayon. Lots of folks use Sulkey brand threads and even more use Mederia Polyneon. Mederia requires a couple coats of color preserver to seal the thread because it contains silicon that will interfere with the finish curing correctly.

Different threads have different strength, some aren't very strong. Also they need to be smooth. Fuzzies make it hard to get a good finish on the wraps. I have some Gudebrod nylon, some Fishhawk nylon, some polyester embroidery thread (cool colors) and various metallics for trim work.
I have read about some folks talking about rayon colors, but I don't care for it right now.
I haven't tried Madiera yet because of the lubricant thing, but I see lots of really cool looking wraps done with it! They have a lot of colors.
