I don't know much about modern Fenwick rods...I bought an 8' 5 wt about twenty five years ago when graphite was just coming into its own. It is still the sweetest rod I own.. and I own a bunch... including Orvis, and have owned several bamboo. I used to think that if you didn't spend a fortune on a rod it was 2d rate. I even tried to convince myself that I loved at least one rod BECAUSE it was expensive. I finally got rid of it because It was in fact a cheesy rod. These days...it just boils down to "do I like the way it casts and fishes?"
Get out there and try it. Fenwick is a company with a long histroy of rod building. In the early days they were a benchmark of excellence. Seems like they must have learned a thing or two in that time.
If you like it...that's all that matters
I haven't seen an Okuma fly reel...but I'll bet it is good. I bought a couple of Okuma fly boxes a while back, and they make my old Wheatleys look flimsy. Their other products that I have seen are top rate.

Tell us more about the rod. On the rod there should be information about it.
Was it a new rod or something someone had around.
Fenwick has changed hands several times.
Most of the rods they built where considered quality rods for the money.

Love those old Fenwick rods. What are you using it for Steelies, Salmon or Trout?
I agree with the depends on "how it feels and if you like it"!
I have broken graphite and fiberglass with and without fish. They both break somtimes easier than you think they should. Rods dont last forever and if you find one you love it is hard to replace.
Your rod and reel sounds like a sweet combo use it alot then tell us how you love it or not.

I have an Okuma reel for my 8-weight salmon/steelhead rod. So far, I like the reel just fine, but I need to connect it to a fish a lot more than I have, so far.

I just got a new redington rod yesterday and I like it a lot. I haven't caught a fish on it yet but it's a 7/8 weight so it will be great for steelhead. I also got an okuma reel and I like that too.

Which Redington rod did you get? I tried the Red Fly and Crosswater and didn't like those at all, but liked the Wayfarer. If I had the funds, I'd love to try their Nano series rods.
