Got the report from westfly.com. Looks promising. Planning on making a trip this weekend. Anyone been fishing below Bowman Dam recently? This will be my first trip to fish the Crooked.

If you read Westfly you have noticed all the suggested nymphs, dries, and streamer patterns that have been working. The fishing is a little slower now at the low water temps, but is definitely a lot faster than current steelie fishing. You probably have partners to make the trip, but if you want someone to go along who knows the river well, send me an e-mail with your phone number. The tires on my truck are not great to go over Hood, otherwise I would be making the trip myself.

Navigator, how did you do on the Crooked? I live in Pville so fish it more than anywhere else. Was up there 3 weeks ago and had a rough time of it(by my expectations). Had lots of fish nose the fly and turn back down! Could have been a 100 fish day! Hope you had a good trip, the water is absolutely perfect right now! Winter is definitely my fave time to fish it!

Slammin -- I bagged the trip. My partner bailed on me (something about work ...). Didn't want to make the trip by myself and too late in the weekend to set up another partner.

I definitely want to do this river in the winter. I will give you a shout when I head over.

Fishboy. The Crooked River is a tributary to the Deschutes River. The mouth is behind a dam (Lake Billy Chinook). There is a nice tailwater fishery below Bowman Dam (Prineville Reservoir) - which is about 20 miles south of Prineville (along highway 27). Rumour has it this river fishes at its best in the winter and is a popular destination for cabin fever trout fisherman who can't catch steelhead.

Is it a mainly fly fished area? I know where you are talkin about now. I looked it up on a map  Deschutes river is a good place to fish, one of my favoirtes. But i hate SIDE PLANNERS!! So blue foxes are great. But I wanna get into fly fishing more. The only thing associated with fly fishing I do is tie some flies myself. They arn't the best, but work really well for cuttthroat trout in delph creek. By eagle creek.

Fishboy, The Crooked is the absolute best place to learn to flyfish! Lots of fish, nothing of great size, but ive had 4 or 5 100 fish days on the river. Most people nymph, but i mostly use dries. What flies do you tie yourself? Navigator, let me know if you make it over here, The fish are running on the bigger size this year, not sure if its the new regs or not thats helping. Last time i went i only caught 2 fish under 12 inches, and had 2 different fish in the 20 range come up and decided at the last second he better not take that phony fly!
