I have a 6HP 4 Stroke Evinrude, the old drop down brackett on my boat is made for a 2 stroke. I wonder is would work ok, if I only used it on the water and removed the motor for transport?

I always remove my kicker for transport. It's a pain in the you-know-what but it's alot better than a broken kicker bracket. Mine is the old OMC style and if you have anything symilar I would do the same. Especially with the Fulton style.

I have the adjustable Garelick bracket and don't like it. I had to replace the mounting brackets with stainless because the aluminum kept cracking. I'm tryin to buy one of these through Jetcraft. It bolts right on so I don't have to cut up/weld my boat for a kicker pocket.

If I remember correctly those brackets are weight rated. If you motor does not exceed the rating then you are good to go. I would thing a 6hp should be OK.:twocents:

A six horse should be ok. but all of us have seen boats go flying past us on a rough road with the kicker just bouncing away.
the stress loads when a motor is bouncing due to a rough road surface can momentarily triple the weight of the motor when it is mounted on a kicker bracket.
I would be the first to think that it would be best to remove the motor while on the road...and I would also probably be the last person to do it.
How else do you get great "disaster stories" if you always play it safe??

Hi, you might take a look at what I just finished doing and see if it might work for you. The post is on this page "Am I nuts to try this?"
